Update on the Master Bath!

You may remember this room from when I first posted it, but it has changed a bit!
I have been finding some new treasures and it is slowly evolving!

Here is a little refresher on the before:

I love these 1950's pictures and with a touch of coral they were just right for this bathroom.

I am loving the tone on tone look right now but I wanted slight pops of coral through out!
This vintage lotion bottle is perfect as well as the coral from the sea shells and the pictures.

I often buy something because it is different, I don't really have a specific place for it, but I can't pass it up.  Those items usually sit in my closet until I find them a spot, and that is exactly what happen with my wash cloth holder!  It is a old sugar mold I bought years ago.  It has been shuffled around my house looking for it's place, nothing seemed to fit quite right until I put wash clothes in it!

Furniture & Paint Party

It is time to PARTY!

I just barely finished this hutch in time for the party!
I am loving the blue background and all the fun details!
You can read the full post here

As always there were so many fun projects linked up, and I enjoyed snooping around on everyone's blog!

Here are a few of my favorites from last week:

So I have to admit I don't usually love black furniture, but this piece by Alchemy Fine Living caught my eye!  I love how you can still see the wood grain and it looks so sleek!  Fantastic Job!!

What is there not to love about this Dining Room by DIY Beautify?  Look at the fun slip cover and the chevron print and the rug and well the list goes on, but I think you get the idea!

Here is a fun buffet with Milk Paint by I Restore Stuff!  Most milk paint is really chippy but I love how she painted this fun side bar.

And last but not least this amazing dresser by Pneumatic Addict!  I love the red and the fun distressing!

A huge thank you to everyone who linked up last week and continues to link up every week!  I really appreciate all your support!  If you are new leave me a comment, I LOVE NEW FRIENDS!!!

Beautiful Hutch !!

I just finished this beautiful hutch!  This is the 3rd hutch I have refinished and I have to say I am hooked.  They are so much fun to refinish and have a WOW factor when complete!
The only down side is taking them apart and putting them back together, it always takes me longer than expected.  I find myself thinking, "I will just run downstairs and put the doors back on really fast."  Really fast usually ends up taking at least an hour!

Here she is...and well worth the time!

I added the blue distressed bead board in back and love the contrast it gives the piece.

Look how all the beautiful details pop with the glaze!

I sprayed this piece with a soft cream latex, it is distressed with a brown glaze and top coated with a Poly Acrylic for protection!

Tuesday's Tip: Distressing

When Painting a piece of furniture I like to distress the edges lightly!  Why?  Naturally paint will chip at some point, because once paint is dried and cured it becomes hard.
Most of the chipping will happen on the edges, so by at least lightly distressing the edges you can help eliminate some chipping.  And if it does chip, it looks like it was supposed to be that way!

An Update on My Living Room Turned Office

I was looking through my blog and I realized my living room/office has changed so much since I last took pictures of it and so here is a little tour!

Our living room in previous homes never served a purpose except to collect dust.  When we were on the hunt for a house a living room was not on our wish list, but this house had so many other things we wanted we decided to turned it into our office.  I was a bit nervous designing this room,  I wanted it to be elegant but functional and NOT scream HOME OFFICE every time I opened the door.

Here is a little refresher on the BEFORE:

Welcome to our HOME!!

I wanted our Entry way to tell our story to whoever came to the front door.  The items displayed all have a story behind them or represent who we are!  You can read the full post here.

Tuesdays Tip: Top Coats

Today I thought I would share 3 of my favorite top coats with you!
Until I took this picture I didn't realize they were all Minwax and they can all be found at most hardware stores.  I bought mine at Home Depot!

Paste Finish Wax: This is a hard wax and is applied by rubbing it on with a rag and then buffing after 15 minutes.  I love this wax for furniture that I want to look very natural but still have protection!  This protect helps protect your furniture without the shine

Wipe On Poly: This has a little more protection than a paste wax but still gives more of a natural look, this is also wiped on with a rag.  I have found a wipe on poly yellows less than painting on a polyurethane.

Polycrylic: I use this the most as it provides the most protection and I can spray it on.  You can pick your sheen, I usually use a satin, not too much shine but just enough.  Polycrylic is water based and doesn't yellow like a polyurethane does!

Happy Tuesday!!

Glaze ONLY!

You may remember last week when I asked for your help on which one you liked best when it came to distressing, sanded and glazed or just glazed!
My friend I refinished this for chose only glaze.  I am so glad she went with what she loved and liked the best.  When doing glaze only it requires a perfect paint job, no pressure right?!  My husband bought me a new paint sprayer which it did the job well, I was super impressed!  Spraying chairs is the way to go.  I used to paint them by hand and it would take me weeks and no matter how hard I tried I always seemed to have runs!

This was by far the biggest project I have taken on,  1 table with leaf, 7 chairs, and this bench.  I had intentions of getting a picture of everything, but it kept raining and I didn't want to risk it, so here is a little peek!

A Saturday of Canning!

I have been practicing up with my new camera lens and taking pictures of objects.  It is harder than I realized to transition from taking pictures of people to taking pictures of objects.
This afternoon as we were canning our Asian Pears I noticed how cool they looked as we were peeling them.  Thank heavens for a peeler, I was dreading doing it by hand, and this way makes for much better pictures!

We canned 31 quarts, of Asian Pears, I am a bit canned out at the moment!
If you have never had an Asian Pear they are worth trying, you may have heard them called an apple pear as well.  They taste just like they sound.  They grow in the shape of an apple, have the texture of a pear and are very sweet to the taste.  They have become one of my favorite fruits, good thing we large tree of them in our back yard!

I hope everyone is having a fun weekend!!
