Treasure Hunting....

I always like to show the "pretty" stuff.  However, I love the hunt for treasures.  I am sure you know the saying "one man's junk is another man's treasure" well it defiantly rings true in my case.  I am always on the look out for new finds.  Every Saturday my 6 year old and I head out to search garage sales and flea markets.  She is getting to be quite the little negotiator!

I wanted to start a weekly Saturday post about our fun treasure we find.  Somethings will be available to purchase, I may keep some and others....well I might just be undecided (that happens often)

Look at this stack of old shutters.  They are even raw wood, just calling for attention!  I am not positive what I am going to do with these, but I am thinking shabby chic something or other!

Refinished Pedestal Table

My what a crazy day it has been!  I have a few deadlines I am racing to meet which means more time in the garage.  Not that I am complaining, my garage is my sanctuary somedays, but it is always a little rough to work and be a mommy all at the same time.  My baby is almost 1, I can't believe he is getting so big so fast.  But he is at that age where he is into everything so containing him can be a job all of its own.  But we succeeded today all of my children are tucked safely in bed and....I finished this table and my what a beauty it turned out to be.

Here is a look at the before.  It is a beautiful solid wood Ethan Allen table, it just needed a facelift.

Now it is so light an cheery!

Since this table is solid wood it made sanding the top down possible and I am so glad.  It has such beautiful grains and I love the wood top.  I stained the top with Miniwaxes Early American and top coated it with a Spar Urathane.

The table base and chairs are painted with a custom mixed cream latex paint.  I then sanded and glazed them to bring out all the details on the spindles.

I have to admit, I kind of really hated these chairs when they showed up, and I hated them while I was sanding them, because sanding chairs is a very long process, but I can now say I am a lover of these chairs.  They just needed a little help showing off all of their curves!

I think am going to call it a day, off to my bed I go!!

Preserving Boxwood Branches

I love the look of dried boxwood.  I bought this one awhile ago and have always wanted another one or 2 and of course a wreath.  But if you have ever bought real dried boxwood you know they are not cheap.  My mom has a large hedge of boxwoods that line her property so I decided to figure out how to dry them correctly and put them to good use!

Master Bathroom Mirror.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may remember me asking for advice about my black mirror.  I have always wanted to change the color of it, but at the time there was so much going on with the remodel of our home I just needed to get it hung.  I didn't hate it black, but I felt it stood out more than I wanted it to.....so 3 years later it was time for a change......

And the most popular vote was....GOLD!!
If you would have told me 3 years ago I would be painting something gold I would have called you crazy and reassured you that would never ever happen.  But gold has grown on me and I love my mirror gold.

It makes the space brighter and you can see the beautiful details of the frame much better.

Why I use Latex Paint.....

I often get asked why I paint with latex, I want to answer this by saying because I just like it better.  I have never really had a good answer until now......after many months of thinking it over.

First, I love the look of sprayed furniture, it is so smooth and if done right it can produce a perfect finish.

Second, I am a perfectionist.  I always look at those beautiful chippy pieces and think to myself "I love that look....I can do that."  but I can't because it has to be balanced and symmetrical.  All areas have to be distressed evenly, I can't have a side that is more chippy than the other or it bothers me, like keeps me up at night bothers me.

Ombre French Lingerie Chest

Ever since we put the girls in the same room, about a year ago, I have been looking for a lingerie chest.  They can be hard to come by, so when I found this at a garage sale for $10....YES $10 I didn't even think twice!

It had been previously painted.....after about 4 hours of sanding....which I might add was worth it...

We finally found the wood!  I don't always stripe all the paint off, but the previous paint was scratching and flaking off, which would cause the new coat of paint to do the same.
Once the paint was off I was stumped as to what to do with this piece.
My girls room has fun bright colors (you can see that here) I wanted this chest to fit in with out being too wild.....

Ombre it is!
I have been ewing and awing over umber furniture for sometime, but never found the right piece, until now!  The 6 drawers make this piece the perfect candidate!

Refinished French Hutch!

I really didn't want to give this hutch up.  I finished it up back in December and it has been sitting down in my craft room as I have tired every possible way to rearrange my house to accommodate this piece... I have failed.  It just won't fit without looking out of place....so I guess I am going to have to part with it :(  I have sprayed this hutch with a HIGH quality latex custom mixed cream color and then I used Benjamin Moore's White Dove to accent the beauty of this piece.  I have also antiqued, glazed and top coated this piece, so it is ready for a new home.  It measures 49 inches long x 17 inches wide x 70 inches high.  This is not your average oversized hutch, it is cute, petit and oh so beautiful.  Asking $650
